Striped Bass

Striped Bass, or by its more familiar name, rockfish, is Maryland's official state fish. It is recognized as one of the tastiest fish found in the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries.

Loved for its mild, juicy, sweet flavor, and firm texture, rockfish have enjoyed a successful rebound in population. Thanks to careful fisheries management, striped bass return to the Bay yearly to spawn,

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources continues the management of striped bass by allocating the catch between recreational fishermen, charter boats and the commercial harvest. This allows everyone an opportunity to enjoy this tasty creature!

Rockfish are excellent baked, broiled, poached, or grilled. In Maryland, we love our rockfish stuffed with crab imperial or oyster dressing.
